Magnum Shakey Head

Featured Replies

My first post. Glad I found this forum. This is awesome!

Have any of you tried the big Shakey Head rig with a 10" floating worm? I saw Edwin Evers doing this on The Bass Pros and he w as catching some toads.

I have the zoom's magnum shaky head worm, but haven't thrown it yet, because I do very well with the zoom's magnum trick worm. Also when I first started out I threw the original Shaky head worm and trick worm and get lots of bass of all sizes. I just rig the orignal size worms with Gamagatzu EWG Offset Shank Worm Hook in 2/0 Red or black and for the magnum worms 3/0. Usually in Green Punpkin Worms with Red hooks works best for me.

I make a screw lock 3/8oz shaky head with a 5/0 hook for a 10" worm and at certain times it is a killer presentation!

Tackle Warehouse has them, but I ordered the X-lock made by Xcite. http://www.xcitebaits.com/get_xcited/index.php?cPath=3

From what I've read this is where Yum got their ideas for the Pumpkin 'Ed.

Thanks i'll order some in a few min.

Last year at Clear Lake I tried a 10 inch hand poured worm made by Maverick Baits with a custom 1/4 wide gap shakey head. I was apprehensive but the shop owner's advice was gold so I went with it and gave it a try when things slowed down. It worked great. I plan to use it next week.

Welcome to the forum BTW !

When is the best time to try this presentation?

whenever your out fishing!

10" worm on a shakey head will catch em at the same times a 4" shakey will..your numbers may go down, but quality will go up. And don't be surprised by the small fish that will hit this offering.

To be more specific,i don't drag worms till late spring/all summer..not that they don't work early,i just like to throw spinnerbaits & jigs earlier in the season.

I wish Edwin Evers never did that segment. :occasion5: I've made a few post about this because I caught my best stringer of the year with this rig. I used the Xcite worm with a 1/2 oz 8/0 Titleshot. Seemed like I was consistantly getting bigger bites over the 10" ribbontail worm rigged with a slip sinker.

To be fair, and I assure you this is not a pitch for a forum sponsor but these http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/index.php/zenith-shakey from Siebert outdoors are some of the best heavy cover shakeyheads I have thrown.

I have thrown many different brands of shakeyheads but the Siebert and megastrike are the best I have ever used.

Just got my Xcite worms in. Man these are some big worms! Just gotta locate the fish now and give them a try.

When is the best time to try this presentation?

According the show I watched Evers fishing them in, he was talking about it as a summer pattern. But it seems folks here have had luck with it at different times than that.
