Hi All,

I recently got a new Avid spinning rod and a Pflueger President to pair with it. There are extra grooves in the reel seat. Is this normal, and can it hurt?

No problem at all. All that means is that a reel with shorter reel feet will still fit.

If the feet were longer wouldn't more of the grooves be showing?

Right. That's what I was saying. If you switched to a reel with a shorter foot than the President (great reel by the way) you have enough threads to tighten down on it.
