I got a Mojo Bass for Chirstmas in 2011 and just took it out on Sunday for the first time. I hadn't paid much attention to the rod prior to taking it out and noticed what appears to be some epoxy missing form the tip. I have included a link below. Can this weaken the tip? Should I send it to get repaired? Any thoughts or knowledge on this would be great.

Appears to me the tip wasn't seated all the way. I am in no way an expert, so I am sure some of the rod builders will chime in! I would have it repaired if it were me!

Yeah, I am afraid that is what I might have to do. It's been too long since I got it to exchange it at the store, which means I am going to have to send it in =(.

As apposed to that, find a reputable rod builder in your area. This is a MINOR fix! Will be cheaper than sending it in.

There is nothing for a tip-top to seat against. It appears as though there is a trim wrap that stopped a few threads short. It's just esthetic, nothing to worry about. I don't wrap or epoxy tip tops as a rule, as it makes replacement more difficult if necessary.

I guess "seated" wasn't the correct term. Is it not that the tip could have been pressed down onto the rod tip more to fill the gap?

Good question. I was initially wondering that as well.

Easiest way to find out is to heat it up a little and see if it pushes down any. More than likely it's perfectly fine. Its a minor manufacturing defect. It would probably bug me enough that I'd have to at least see if it wanted to move a little....

Looking at the size of the gap compared to the tube on the top, it might go on further but poses no performance or durability problem as is. Sometimes the hot melt glue doesn't like being reheated and the bond suffers slightly so I try not to mess with it if not necessary. If it just drives you crazy because it's not 100% (a lot of us are like that)go for it.

the cost to fix that for a local builder is next to nothing or well it should be next to nothing, real easy fix.. you can do it yourself if you want.. but really if you have to pay to ship it to st. croix compared to the $6 or so a builder would charge LOL its almost not worth charging for unless we were to have to buy a tip for it.

even if it needs a re-wrap it would be ready the next day and takes not much time at all.. probably 5-10 mins to wrap and put the finish on and then it just turns till cure, i mean that's again almost a free fix come back again when you need a rod LOL right! the most it should cost without need to buy a new tip is between $5-10 and if you were to need a tip the cost would just include the price of the new tip.
