My friend and I tried a new pond last week. Ithasn't been fished in over 10 years. The first day we caught an 8 and two 5 lbs bass to back within an hour. The rest of the day we caught dozens about 2 to 3 pounds. The days after the big fish never bit again. We took about 3 days off from it and still no big fish. Do the big females "know" what we were up to for lack of a better term? We still catch 2-3 pound bass there but the big mamas seem to have gone slow. We took a small boat an trolled for 5 hours yesterday and got bass all day long, just not the biggins'. I was thinking that maybe since the pond hasn't been fished in 10 years they have never been exposed to those lures before and went for them. Or maybe thu will get active again in the summer.

Were you and your friend using the same bait/ baits after you caught the two 5 lbers?

We tried everything. We are waiting to see what they will do when the weather warms up to about 90 instead of 80.

Try a different time of day. I have a pond I fish just like this, it is out in the woods, nearly no one fishes it besides me and my buddies that I take out with me. Other than the occasional big one during the day, the ONLY time we catch monsters is at night and they will only hit one lure, the same one every night.

There is a reason why the big fish are big...Just like deer, the big ones are big because they are smart. Not only that, but there just simply as many big ones living as there are 2-3 pounders...Fish have a limited amount of time, and it's a game of survival. I feel your pain though, I fished a new farm pond and caught a few nice fish the first few times, after that 1-3 pounds....stay after them
