Bps New Extreme Xps Rod?

Featured Replies

So i made the mistake of letting my 11 year old cousin fish with my st croix legend tournaments and legend extremes so he wont pick up his lightning rod anymore. He kept telling his mom "i want an extreme". So since i take him out a few times a month i though i would get him the bps new extreme since its cheaper than dropping a rod worth 5-6 xs that over board. Hes tall so i was thinking of getting him the 6'6 mh or 6'10 mhxf for his jigs/weightless plastics. Hes using a citicaE on it. Hows the sensivity/weight of the rod? Dont wanna let the little guy down with a flop.

forgot about this post.

anybody?

theyre not bad at all. i use an older extreme spinning rod with a pq spinning reel for dropshotting and i feel everything just fine. theyre good rods for the money. im sure the new models or just as good or better.

I bought them while they were on sale because I needed a 3 piece, and have no complaints. They're not the lightest, but they are very sensitive. Definitely a ways above a lightning rod.

I picked up a two-piece 7' medium Extreme spinning rod last month to replace a broken Triumph and have no complaints. Mine is paired with a PQ spinning reel (PQ20), and while it's definitely not the lightest outfit, it's not super heavy either.

Sensitivity is pretty good with flouro, about the same as the comparably-priced St. croix models, but not as sensitive as some other BPS rods in the same price range like the Carbonlite and Browning HiPower. I'm sure it'll hold up better under rough treatment though, which is exactly what I was looking for when I bought it.

If you're going to buy one, wait for a sale. I only paid $70 for my Extreme and another $40 for the reel.

I have a 7ft M/H casting rod, they are not bad, I got it on sale at the Spring Classic for 70 bucks I believe. Paired it with a pro qualifier and it does what its supposed to, so I can't complain. I have used cheapo spinning set ups for most of my life so I dont have much to compare it too. I would say that it seems a little stiff for a medium heavy, but the only other rod I have to compare it too is the BPS Carbonlite, and I love that rod, sensitive and light as a feather. I also have a Vertias and I would actually put both of them ahead of the xtreme. But for the price I got it at (70) I cannot complain. If you were to pay the full 100$ price tag though, I would go with something else in that same price range, perhaps at Vertias. Or if you could get a carbonlite on sale (they go on sale quite often ) then either of those two would fit the bill.

The one xps are nice rods....again not the lightest, but no where near heavy either. Sensitivity is pretty good. I have 2 of the previous versions and both had problems with the guides coming off. I'm hard on rods though and fish 5-6 days a week. But for the money these are nice rods, you won't let him down if you get him one.
