i will be fishing in clear water, i have been using 4 inch senko for skipping under trees, i am wondering what other lures is good for skipping, i am considering using jackall cove craw and tubes. and also should i use 8 lbs sunline sniper flurocarbon for skipping or should i use braid with a leader?

My skipping setup is going to be a 6'6" MH spinning rod with braid and a short flouro leader. This will allow me to flip accurately into heavier cover and get those fish out.

As far as baits go, you're are on the right track. I love the cover craw and will be throwing that a lot this year along with NorthStar pro finesse jigs, ring fries, and 4" senkos.

I have always used baitcasters but I am starting to learn how to skip docks now with a spinning reel. Senkos are a great bait to start with along with flukes.

I always use a spinning setup to skip under things because I am not great skipping with a baitcaster. One thing I have learned for me anyways is that mono skips much better than fluro. It comes off the reel smoother and does not sink as fast as fluro does. You may want to give mono a try just to see if it comes easier for you also.

Line doesn't matter for skipping, so long as it isn't rope. What matters more is the cover under the trees. If you need something more then 8 lb. line, then consider 20# braid and a 10-12# leader. Another bait that skips easily is a butt rigged Fat Ika. Another often overlooked bait is a topwater frog or spook type bait. You'd be surprised how effective a Sammy can be under the canopy, if you have the guts to throw it in there.

Take an arky jig, trim the front part of the skirt, and add a trailer that is pretty flat along the bottom. Like a paca craw. Got pretty good using that with a baitcaster. If you want to try using a baitcaster make sure the tension knob and brake settings are turned down real low. You got to get REALLY good with thumbing the spool. And be ready for a monster backlashes.

Tubes will also skip very well. My favorite skipping lure.

I have used this goby sled rigged with a tube and it's been pretty effective.

Arkie head jig and a flat bodied trailer like a chunk is a greater start lure to flip. Once you get decent, you will learn to flip most anything, even poppers.

Yes. At least I do.

I use a roll cast or a sidearm.

spinning combo I use sidearm. Baitcasting I use a fast pitching motion.
