Question About Spawning Bass

Featured Replies

I hit the lake on my way home today for about an hour despite the high winds and cold front that had been sitting on us all day. I got near some boat houses and docks i like to toss senkos at and went to work. I was standing there on a ramp to a boathouse where the ramp met the shore. Out of the corner of my eye i saw some water movement and when i looked down there was a FAT girl sitting in about 1 1/2 ft of water about 2 ft from the shore. Back was almost out of the water she was so shallow. Then she calmly swims off and i lose sight of her. I know it sounds cliche to say she was a big girl but in all honesty she was every bit of 10 lbs. I dont know how i walked right past her and not seen her the whole time.

I waited a while silently and motionless to see if she would come back around. I saw alot of other activity along the shoreline but not in this spot. After a while she came back to same spot i originally saw her, calmly turned around and swam back out into deeper water.

My question is, even in staind water, if im able to see her can she see me? And, what are the chances she will be there tomorrow morning? Lastly, when she swims off, is she roaming the lake or is she still a short distance away?

I bank fish too and in my experience if you can see them they can DEFINITELY see you. Usually if she is on a bed and you spook her off she will come back eventually. If i spook one ill leave for 15-20 mins and then come back to the spot crouching low and silently.

You didn't mention seeing a bass bed, so it's not likely she was there to spawn.

Unless the water was muddy or very murky, it's also unlikely that a buck would fan a bed

that shallow and that tight to the shoreline

To reduce the odds of being seen, always keep the sun on your back,

BUT keep your shadow out of your vista.
