NEED HELP

Featured Replies

I am new to bass fishing and need some advice on how and what hooks to use when using soft plastics like worms and tubes. It all seems very confusing to me and i dont know whether or not to use regular hooks or weighted hooks. If someone can help me that wud be great.

First of all, welcome to the board - I am sure that you will get lots of advice that will help you pick your way through the confusion.  For me, I use either 4/0 or 3/0 offset hooks with all of my plastics.  Occasionally, if I am using a very small lure, I will go down to a 2/0.  You will probably want an offset hook to help you with T-rigging and keeping the lure in place while swimming through grass, etc.  I would advise against using "weighted" hooks as you will want to be able to adapt as you go along.  So use bullet weights instead, this way you can adjust the fall of the lure depending on where and how you are fishing.  I'm sure some will have different thoughts, but that's okay.  Just try out different techniques until you see what works best for you.

Welcome aboard!

For most soft plastics I use a Gamakatsu or X-Point 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on the size of your bait. 1/0 to 4/0 wide gap's.

WELCOME to the forum! I'll add to the confusion by saying:

1.Worms- 6" or so worms 2/0 offset worm hook

2.Creature Baits- 2/0 to 3/0 Gammi EWG hooks

 3. Flukes- 4/0 Gammi EWG hooks

You're going to have to try a lot of different things and then settle on what you personally like. I think almost all of our answers to almost all questions could start with the phrase "in my opinion" ;D...
