Best Lense Color

Featured Replies

I'm looking into getting a pair of Costa's with the 580 lenses (mainly because they come highly recommended from many of the members here). My question is what is the best all around lense color for freshwater fishing? I have heard copper or silver mirror might be the best. Keep in mind that I have brown eyes that are not overly sensitive to light and I would like these glasses to help me sight fish. What do you guys think?

Amber offers the highest degree of color contrast ;)

What are the differences between copper and amber?

Copper is Costa's closest lense color to amber for the 580's.  Amber only comes in the 400's.  If you want the 580 lenses it looks like your decision is pretty easy.  Remember, the green mirror and silver mirror are both Copper lenses with a mirror finish over top.  I think the mirror is supposed to cut glare on blue bird days, but I've also heard that it makes sight fishing more difficult in overcast/low light conditions (apparently darker).  I'll probably go with silver mirror when I order mine.  Seems to be in the middle of the three.

Grey, Green, Smoke, Copper, Blue, Cobalt etc. are best used during bright skies

Amber, Brown, Cooper, Vermilion etc. are best used during low light conditions

Amber gives the best color contrast which eliminates eyestrain

With cooper every thing appears darker than with amber ;)

NOVA,

I was considering the silver mirror lenses as well. As you mentioned, they appear to be the best all around lense for my purposes. Now I just have to figure out which frame will fit me the best. I hope my local Cabela's carries them in stock so I can check them out.

Thanks for the help guys.
