Looking For A Trim System

Featured Replies

hey... i am rescuing a boat that was abandoned in an old fishing town... the boat was sitting there for about 4 years, so, some parts are missing... among them, is the trim system... i know it was one, because there is a trim switch and when i push it, i can hear a click, which i assume is a relay or solenoid... however, i need the rest of the system... do you know where can i get one?? i would prefer used, because of the $$ factor, i have seen they are expensive, but since i am restoring this thing, i want to get it right the first time...

thanx!!

Someone might be able to help if you gave us some information. Just the basics, like the brand, the year, and the horsepower of your motor.

As mentioned, they are not universal, need a make, model and year. Also, before spending money on expensive parts, I hope you gone through the basics of getting the thing running and making sure everything else works. It's extremely easy to spend more on parts to get one back together than the thing would be worth when done.

sorry, i thought they were somehow universal...

the motor is a johnson, 85 HP, mid 70s i believe... the boat is a king fisher from 1977 or so... i will check the tag when i get home...

and, what do you mean by "the thing" ? if you mean, the boat, or the motor, they work great, we are just restoring them, but functionally they are working as they should.... but, if you mean the trim system, there is not one installed... i think there used to be one but someone took it away.... there is a trim switch on the console, but the pistons are not there... the motor has a plate that i believe is used to install the pistons....

I meant the motor. You can expect to pay a few hundred bucks for a good trim assy. Power T&T was an option back then and a lot of motors didn't have it. You can go to BRP.com's parts lookup and see what you have and what's missing. I will say, you are probably beating a dead horse, or planning on spending a way more money than it's worth. Might want to check the floor of the boat and transome real good. I would think they are most likely rotted if the boat's that old and left for junk.

thanx. the motor i fixed last year, and we fished out of this boat all last season... now we are restoring it... here is my restoration thread:

the motor works good, the boat floats, we even used it for skiing last year... how can i check if the floor is rotten? the transom and the keel need a little repair, they work as they are now, but could use a little touchup, we already have the materiasl to do it...
