Ribbits, Horny Toads, And Chigger Toads

Featured Replies

i said i wouldnt but i beleive i am getting a second setup just for em, a okuma komodo, anyway what is best hooks and sizes for em i see alot of 4/0 at my walmart, they are the ribbit brand hooks and gammys. How many use the double hook VS a EWG? or is there a time and place, I will be running these frogs acoss unnholy sludge and slop.

I haveant fished them in a long time, but I use to fish them all the time. I tried the double hooks, wasnt a fan at all, also used a arsenal of diff worm hooks. I settled on a 4/0 round bend hook for the best hook up ratio's.

alright thanks

i like the zoom screw-lock hook designed for the HT in 4/0-5/0 size. Works nice for many plastics and seems to extend the life of the bait.

check out the OWNER BEAST hooks, my absolute favorite for plastic frog/ tube fishing. they last alot longer too!

I strictly use the Stanley Ribbit double weighted hook. You miss a few, but that is frog fishing too. I have been very satisfied with them. Added weight helps you to cast them a lot further.

thanks

Try any 4/0 screw lock. The thicker the wire the better, so it stays bottom-down.

I just use a 3/0 EWG magna from BPS. When I hook through the head of the frog I go shallow at first so if the fish rips it I can just go deeper the second time. If I can get a third or more out of it, then it was a good bait. My frogs are usually BPS or Zoom.

I have a bunch of the YUM Buzz frogs, with a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG superline hook I was getting a great hook up rate. I tried a buch of different frogs when they came out as you used them more like a subtle buzzbait rather than a frog and tha Buzz Frog was the one that I was always able to consistantly hook up with. I will admit I got more strikes with the Stanley ribbit but I caught more fish on the buzz frog.

I prefer the Owner screwlock/ swimbait hooks in 4/0 or 5/0. I pour my own buzzfrogs and have a great hook up ratio on these hooks.
