Wachusett Reservoir Bass Fishing

Featured Replies

Whats up guys-

I'm looking to fish out of the wachusett rez for bass. Should i just use shiners or what has everyone else had luck on?

Also what gates / areas are best?

Thanks

interested in this as well... I fished there a few days ago from gates 10 and 14, I liked the look of 10 more for the gear that I had with me so I gave it a shot for a few hours with no luck...

I can tell you that it was hot, about 90 degrees there, and I tried spinnebaits, and texas rigged grubs/kreature soft plastics to different areas, I could see a few big smallmouth and saw a decent sized northern pike as well, but was not able to hook up on anything. going to give it a try again soon though!

I don't know the gate numbers off hand but I usually go off of route 70. If you're trying for largemouth, look for coves with weedy cover. I've caught them mostly on soft plastics (gulp sinking minow, plastic worms) in darker colors. For smallmouth, I've been having a lot of luck dragging a crawfish imitation soft plastic(with bioedge scent, in a brownish color) along rocky bottoms. This time of year I usually have the best luck in the evenings, between 6 and 10. I've heard shiners are good as well but I haven't used them.
