  1. Hi everyone, While fishing the last two days I have seen many fish feeding on the flies on the top. I was fishing for bass mostly with a spook lure but nothing! I want to know how I can snag all these salmon or trout that are feeding on top... I don't have a fly rod and I've tried the clear bobber with a fly on the end with no avail. Any suggestions on being able to land one of these? Thanks!
  2. Hello fellow anglers, Where I go fishing I can see the landlocked salmon and trout feeding off the surface on some flies and bugs. I do not have a fly rod and I only bring my one spinning rod with me. I've tried casting spoons and crank baits in the direction of where I see the fish at the surface, but they wont hit anything! How could I go about catching these surface feeders with a spinning setup? Thank you
  3. Yes but how would I go about removing the small darker cork?
  4. Can I separate and remove the darker cork from the lighter cork? The butt end I guess you would call it? If so, how would I go about doing this? Thanks
  5. I recently bought an ultralight st. croix rod and paired it with a pflueger reel size 25 (second from the smallest) and when I hold the rod just above the reel the tip points towards the ground. How can I go about adding more weight to the butt of the rod to balance it out? I've heard of using furniture caps or cane caps but the rods end is very short and the caps wpuld be too long... Any ideas to remedy this? I've attached a picture of what the end of the rod looks like. The very end of the rod, the diameter is about an inch then it is 3/4 of an inch all the way to the reel.
  6. I was reeling the line off the spool in the wrong direction...
  7. I just realized that I spooled the line on my reel in the wrong direction!! Doh! I'm using Berkley vanish. Is there any coming back from this? Will I need to respool again? Thanks
  8. Hello Everyone, Cabin fever is really starting to get the best of me and I am dying to get out there to start catching some fish here in Mass! There is a smaller river near me in central mass that I've been scoping out and possibly start fishing... I am thinking of picking up an ultralight set up this week to test the waters with in the near future... I do have some questions however.... Is it too early to catch anything? What lures/bait would work the best for this time of year? Thanks
  9. So you would probably suggest me using a mono line with no leader?
  10. Hi everyone, I will be targeting smallmouth on top water lures this summer. I have a baitcaster that is spooled up with braided line and I am wondering when fishing top water does anyone use a leader attached to their braided line or do you just tie the lure directly to the braided line? Thanks
  11. If you've ever fished the Wachusett Reservoir you will see that everyone catches lakers and bows on shiners. A lot of smallmouth too!
  12. A lot of people around my area fish with shiners to catch trout. I am wondering how they detect a hit? I see some people use bells at the top of their rod while some people use a bobber on like the 3rd or 4th eye of their rod hanging on the line... Whats the best method for detecting a hit? What methods do you people use? Thanks
  13. I am almost 300lbs and I am 6ft 1in. I am not planning on standing up on this thing but maximum stability on the water would be best!
  14. It's a Honda Pilot and yes the rear seats fold down.
  15. Hi everyone, I am looking to get off the shoreline and start fishing ON the water! I would like something that I can fit in the back of my SUV to bring from spot to spot. I'm not sure a kayak will fit in the back of my SUV and a float tube I'm not really sure about because I fish very shallow waters sometimes and having my feet in water kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies! What kind of ride could I get that will fit and be very portable? I should probably mention that I am almost 300lbs and VERY concerned about stability! Thanks
  16. Thanks for the input everyone. So what is the best knot to tie braid to the flouro leader?
  17. Hi everyone I am just wondering when fishing with light braid, for example 8# to 15# test, does anyone tie on a fluorocarbon leader when targeting smallies or trout? I would be throwing a senko or spoons at 1/2oz or under.... Anyone tried this before? is it a good idea? How long should the leader be? Thanks
  18. I want to cast my 3/4 and 1 oz lures FAR!!! I do most of my fishing from shore and I want to catch some trout that's out DEEP! I'll be throwing kastmasters and lures alike. What rod / line recommendations would you make? Thanks in advance.
  19. What model Avid rod would be best? There are so many choices! LOL!
  20. Hi guys, I am looking for a setup that will cast light lures FAR!! I am fishing from shore most of the time and it's hard to get that lure "out there"! I fish mostly worms with a hook (no weight), small spinners, small plastics, basically lures with minimal to no weight.... I was thinking about getting this setup what do you guys think? Will this please me? What do you guys have for setups? Rod: St. Croix Mojo Bass MBS69MLXF the drop shot 6'9" model.
