Reel In The Water

Featured Replies

My Curado 200e7 fell off my kayak and into the water for about a second today. It was completely submerged but didn't touch the bottom or get sand in it (water only went just above the reel seat). Anyway I fished about 30 more minutes and it felt fine, but is there any thing I should do to make sure it stays working properly since it fell in?

Nah! It happens! Some super reel fanatics( JFrancho and DVT) will probably tell you to take it apart and let it dry out and then clean really well before oil/grease and reassembly, but I have done it numerous times with no problems!

My reels are in the water all the time. It happens.

With a regular cleaning, greasing and oiling, I've never had any problems.

A quick dunking like you describe won't hurt anything right away. Just set it out to dry and maybe put a drop of oil on the bearings. If something lays on the bottom or gets dropped in the sand I'd suggest having cleaned right away, but you should be fine until the season winds down.
