Rod For Crankbaits

Featured Replies

I know people say use moderate action for crankin but i see alot of rods that say crankbait rod that are fast action. the shimano sellus crank rod says fast action and so does the bassproshops crankn stick. Do you guys use a moderate action rod or just a regular fast action?

I have used both Moderate and fast action for cranking. I did land more fish with the moderate action but still had a few shake free. I think it is inevitible when fishing with treble hooks. You will lose fish plain and simple. Maybe less though with a moderate action.

I seemed to lose more fish with crankbaits and spinners when I went to braid, and a fast rod. Then when I started using a moderate action rod, I had more hookups, I think once you get the fish hooked either is a wash and will depend on you fighting the fish properly. With braid and no stretch, and a fast tip I just can't hesitate that extra little bit before setting the hook, and I miss more hook up's with a fast action rod.

I don't know why they say fast on them but just checking the bend in-store they are more moderate action than a fast, for the price it is one of the better bangs for your buck crankbait rods.

I use a very moderate mh rod for shallow/mid cranking and 12-15lb fluoro and do occasionally have fish shake off but very rarely.
