Best Line And Rod Action For Top Waters Such As Jitterbug And The Hula Popper

Featured Replies

hello im getting into fishing again and am starting a arsenal of set ups. I'm also looking for a setup just for my top water baits.

my question would be what kind of line would be best for top water as well the #.

also what action would i want for the rod. i was thinking medium heavy not sure though so would like to ask people with the experience. i have my frogging setup that will be ready to go when i get back in town. i have my set up i use for senkos super flukes and spinners. well i hope you can use spinners on a senko/super fluke set up i like the beetle bug spiner.

i also have an old lucky stick i think medium action with some abu garcia spinning i take with me just in in case something happened and i need a back up. for all i know it could be good for my spinners my primary spinner and goto is the beetle bug spinner then i think i'd be set. only has 6 or 8# test though.

appreciate the help guys!

The would just use the ugly stick for top-water. I like 8-10 lb mono.

I use a Berkley Lightning Shock MH 6'6, with Shimano Citica G, and 17# mono. I like the shorter rod so I have no problem getting the tip down low anytime.

^^X2, use the same setup works really well. Mono is the way to go.

I agree. I have a cheap Abu I got from walmart for 10 bucks on sale. Its a medium 6' fast. I bought it for my son but have been using it for top water when fishing off docks and peers. The 6' length is night and day difference when running poppers and snooks against my 7' rods
