Help Me Match A Reel To This Rod.

Featured Replies

I'm gradualy upgrading my equipment, and felt the need for a dedicated crankbait setup. So i've purchased a St.Croix Premier 6/6 m/m crankbait rod. I'm undecided on what reel to put on it and looking for suggestions. Budget limit $200.00.

curado 200e5

or daiwa zillion crazy cranker

Lews Tournament Pro TP1S or Tournament Speed Spool TS1S are a couple other options. The Revo Winch is on sale for $159.99 at TW.

EDIT: One of my cranking rods has an Abu Black Max 1600C. This would be a used option only, and a lot less than your limit. However, it casts light weights surprisingly well even in a stiff wind. I'm not sure about the quality of its drag yet. Haven't been able to catch a fish with it. :( One reason why I don't fish cranks too often even tho I like throwing them.

I wouldn't throw deep cranks on that rod so I don't think a low gear reel is necessary. I would go with a 6.3:1 reel like a citica 200e or if you want use up your whole budget get a Chronarch 50e.

I bought the Bass Pro, Pro Qualifer in 471 ratio for cranks. Super smooth and no issues here. Its a bit on the heavier side compare to my other reels. I got mine in the classifieds for 50 shiiped. New they run 100.

I didn't think about that. You are right. Why limit yourself to a reel primarily designed for deep cranking and then use it on a rod for shallow to medium cranks? Now the field is wide open. :)
