Small,pressured,clear Water Lake

Featured Replies

A bud and I are going to fish a small, clear water lake Sunday. I was just looking for some advice. Im thinking drop shotting, main lake points since it should be pretty hot, 100 plus. Or would it be better to throw a big bait and fish slow? Thanks for any help y'all can provide

You'll have to experiment a little. Right now I think your best bet shallow is probably

frogs, Rage Toads or Rage Shad early. I'm still having good luck with the LC RC 3.5 in

this heat. Later, Thumper, GMAN Jig or NorthStar/ Rage Craw & Lobster.

Don't forget the JJ'sMagic, it REALLY helps when things are a bit slow.

X2 on the experimenting and early baits, I would go with the Rage Shad since it has heavy pressure, could be something they have not seen before, if top water won't work then go to the bottom and slow way down, your drop shot may work if there is some cover in the area and or suspended, but the C-rig with a Rage lizard is what I would suggest.

X10 on the jj's, don't leave home without it !!!

By the way, Welcome to the forum !!!

I really appreciate the advice. Ill go to bass pro and pick up some rage shad and lizards n toads. I have yet to fish with them. But have heard some good stuff. Thanks for the welcome. Have been fishing for years and all my friends say I over analyze things and think too hard about it so I figured I woukd try and find people who understand that there is more to fishing than meets the eye, a little braain work can make all the difference.

Wow, all you're missing now is some Bass Resource apparel and you're guaranteed to catch fish.

when i fish areas with a lot of pressure I drop my line size, even more so important imo on clear water.

just my $.02

I would say smaller lures, slower retieves, and different presentations......

Maybe wacky.....

Maybe go with a jig with a spinner......

Maybe drop shot.....

Go with things most guys are not throwing

X2. Drop that line size as far as you can get away. Try 8# fluoro

I was wondering if it would be wise to throw a 1oz jig to find structure in the main lake cause I am not really that adept at feeling the structure or bottom unless the lure has some weight. But that's probably what everyone does out there. Maybe once I find the cover I can drop shot it? Decent idea?

Where did this come from and why? RW gave advice on what is working for him. You gave sarcasm that helps no one. People come here to learn and help others.

X2 on throwing something different. If its a pressured lake those fish have seen a texas rig, cranks, jigs, spinnerbait a bazillion times. Throw something different. MAybe a wacky rig, chatterbait, or even just a different worm, maybe a big ole ribbontail. Be creative and different and youll get more bites.

Throw a Carolina Rig to figure out bottom composition. Id go with a half ounce and work up from there. C-Rigs are great for feeling the bottom and any humps that may be there.

I would go with topwaters early and spinnerbaits fished pretty fast. Natural colors on them as well. Rage shads and smaller walking baits will work well. As the sun comes up, work the edges of the first major depth changes with flukes or senkos. Move out deeper with natural colored crankbaits, smaller worms or drop shotting later on. This should work to catch some fish.

i fish a local pond alot like you described and i agree with some of the others i would go to a carolina rig.i fished with a texas rig in my local pond till i was blue in the face with little success and switched to a c-rig and started wearing them out. most ppl use big worms or lizards but i've done better in that pond by using a 4 inch zoom lizard.hope this helps
