I have almost always fished cranks and topwaters but would like to move into soft plastics such as zoom worms, etc.

My question is can I rig them with just a regular jighead, say a ball style? I know how to set up the texas rig but I am not sure if this method would work equally well.

Yes, you can fish plastics of all sorts on jigs of all sorts. Fishing a worm on an open jig (as opposed to one with a brush guard) can be very effective in some situations. A lot of wood/brush/grass will necessitate some type of guard. Good luck.

Larger worms, say 7" and up I like to Texas rig. Smaller finesse worms, say 4" and 6" straight tail work well with a spider slider head or a shakey head ( ball style) but both are still technically Texas rigged. I used 4" worms on a ball head for bed fishing, but never to throw into grass or wood. A football Jighead will probably work in rock, it works good in this situation for spider grubs and baits like this.

Plastics, such as curly tail grubs and other plastics, are great on jigheads as long as you can fish them where the open jig hook won't hang up.

So if I put say a 4" zoom worm on, can I rig it so the hook is weedless?

Yes. You would be better off getting shakey head style heads for that though.

A shakey head is just a stand up jig head with a soft plastic attached. I got into SH this year and it has become one of my go to techniques.

I used to be a t rig guy but I will throw a shakey head over a t rig now. Like how the Jigs make the bait stand up in back.

Try these Owner Ultraheads. They're perfectly balanced, so they come thru the weeds nicely while swimming along.

I also use the Buckeye Goby Sled head for weedless soft plastic rigging.
