I was wondering if I should put oil on my PQ when it comes in? I got that PQ-CarbonLite combo, I hope it gets here on Saturday. So as stated above Oil or no oil. Thank you.

Flush the spool bearings, and add oil to them.

Almost any reel performs better after being serviced. New reels tend to have too much

oil and grease, so no you probably don't need more.

This...... Remove the spool bearings, and soak them in Mineral Spirits, or Acetone, I prefer Mineral Spirits. I use a small glass jar with enough Mineral Spirits to cover the bearings. Let them soak for about ten minutes and then give the jar a few shakes, and let it sit for another 10 minutes or so. Now remove the bearings from the jar and place them on a paper towel to dry, this will take 1/2 hour or less. Place the bearings on the tip of a pencil, and spin them. They should spin free for a few seconds. Now put one drop, and I can't emphasize ONE drop enough, and let it soak in. The bearings should spin free, and silent. Place the back in the reel and go fishing. Your reel will cast and feel much smoother after this simple procedure. It's a good idea to learn to do this on your own, as reel maintenance is something you should perform regularly. Hope this helps.

NOTE: SPIN THE BEARINGS ON THE TIP OF A PENCIL BEFORE THE ABOVE PROCEDURE. THIS WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD IDEA AS TO THE HUGE DIFFERENCE YOU JUST MADE IN PERFORMANCE.

As RW said its full of oil and grease right out of the box. Most companies pack it in so they last several seasons w/o problem b/c most guys don't open/clean/maintain them. When you do clean it or have it serviced by someone be careful the first time out. It will cast MUCH better/farther without all that extra grease packed in there. Turn on an extra brake or two than before b/c it will backlash much easier than what you've become accustomed to.
