New Shimano Calcutta D Series Baitcasting Reel

I'm scheduled to demo a couple of these reels next week (from TW) the 200 & 300 size.

I realize that these reels just hit the street but is anyone using this reel to throw swimbaits (Hudds and the like) ?

If so, I'd really appreciate some feedback.

Also which size reel and what line did you spool it with ?

Thanks in advance

I lurves my 200D. I've only had it a short two and a half weeks, but man it's stellar. Currently it has 20lb mono on it for throwing 6" Hudds. I wanted to try it with that, and haven't changed to what its intended use is- a crankbait reel. I haven't had the chance to fish my 300Ds yet, only cast them, and played. One is on an A-Rig stick and the other is on my big swimmer. Easily the single best upgrade Shimano has made to any reel in my memory. They're stellar. They DO have more torque, and they're very comfortable in hand, the thumb "slot" on top of the reel makes it so much more comfortable; I can't really explain that bit, you just have to get them in hand to see the bit I'm talking about. It's sort of a cutout for your thumb on top of the reel that eases palming...

Anyhow, yeah, probably number 3, possibly 2, on my best buy list for the category. I like them more than my Plutons.

When Hooligan says he likes them more than his Plutons that is saying something. Give us a review after you have checked them out.

Review to follow ~

The only downside on the CT 200D USDM is not having an easy access to the brakes, you need to open it and take out the spool to adjust the brakes. But the CT100D JDM has the easy access to the brakes.

Yeh, that's a drawback, but pretty minor really. I don't really ever change them on my Calcutta reels.

The "Brown Truck" just delivered the reels.

Got here a bit earlier than expected.

I have to ship them back to TW next Monday ( the13th).

Plan on using them in a few different applications utilizing assorted rods and lines.

I'll post a thorough review in a separate thread.

Initial impressions out of the box - they're compact, smooth and feel Very Powerful.

Now, it's off to the lake, it's hard work but someone's got to do it.
