Line For Slider Fishing

Featured Replies

Getting seriously back into slider fishing this year, along with the drop shot I probably got about 7/8 of my bites this year on these two finesse tactics (and the 6.5lber in my profile pic was caught on a 3" slider grub). Been using braid with fluoro leader, but when I slider and drop shot fish, I use a bunch of rods with different weights and baits, and loading 8 rods up with braid gets awefully pricey for my teacher's salary.

What line are you guys using for slider fishing? Do you have a strong preference? I'm tempted to go with a mono or copoly for affordability, but I'm concerned about my ability to set the texposed hooks in 20 feet of water with them on a light or medium light action rod...

6lb pline cxx and 6lb gamma copoly (harder to find but a sweet line).

8lb invisX or 6lb C21 depending on the size bait and water depth.

I used to use a lot of silver thread AN40 and Excalibur Silver Thread. What do you guys think of that line for this application. Haven't used it in years...

Bluebasser, what do you like about the C21? Just curious, I've heard mixed reviews...

For me the stuff has been extremely easy to fish with but very strong. I've used several sizes on both spinning and baitcasting combos from 6lb up to 25lb and have had very good results with all of it. It handles nicely and has great abrasion resistance and is very inexpensive. One of the bigger fish I've caught this year I caught in a brushpile with 25lb C21. After tug o warring back and forth in the tree for several seconds I managed to pull the entire brushpile up where I could reach it and pulled the tree up by hand and managed to grab the fish out of the tree. 5 1/2 pounder and I could barely feel anything in the line. I've pulled logs in with the 6lb while swimming grubs. I've just been very impressed with the line overall. Normally it seems like you have to give up something with your line, if it's strong it's stiff, it it's limp it's weak, not with that stuff.

I slider fish about 50 percent of the time. I use 8 and 10 pound Trilene XL. Same with my drop shot.I use both spinning and baitcasting rods and reels.
