Budget Jig/worm Rod

Recommended Posts

Im gonna buy a new rod later this week for trigs and jigs. Ive researched a bit and im leaning towards these:

Powell Diesel 723cef

Shimano Clarus Casting Rod 7'2" Med Hvy X Fast

So my question is which of these two is the better choice for sensitivity and such? Also I live on Clearlake if that helps at all in helping me choose. TY

Dont buy the Clarus rod, I have broken 2 of them in the last 3 months, they dont hold up. If anything, get the Sellus MH Worm and Jig rod, that thing has a better backbone, and its only $50.

If you are looking for a budget rod check out the Dicks Field & Stream Tec Spec line of rods. They have a 7'3" MHF Elite casting rod with micro guides and a 7'6" MH/EF telescopic rod which may work and keep you under $100 for either rod.

I would get the Powell, or look at the Daiwa T series of rods. I've been highly impressed with the diesel in the short time I've had at, and impressed with the T series a well

Anyone try the *** rods yet and know if that could be a possible contender?

How is the diesel with braid? I haven't heard much about their line guides.

50lb Tufline and lots of slop for ~ 2 months now... not an issue.

I would suggest looking at the Denali Jadewood series, either the 783 0r 843 , I use the 783 for jigs and t rigs, flip spoons in docks and it's also a nice spook rod...

I was using a 7' W&M Skeet, I know some guys dont like these at all, and other's cant stand the color combination. But for me this rod is a keeper I have 3 Skeet models total. Have only had it for 3-4 months and reason I saw "was" is cos I bought a 6' 9" Duckett for spinnerbaits and it currently has a jig tied on it. But thats not what Id consider a budget rod.

The Diesel I have heard nothing but good things about. Also, BPS's Tourney special is an awesome rod that performs as well as rods costing twice as much. A 7' MH should cover most of your jig and worm needs. For pitchin' and flippin' heavy cover, go with a H model though.
