Braided Line Around Docks

Featured Replies

I fish in a lake where the majority of tournament fish come from under the docks. The water isn't crystal clear but isn't too dirty either, I really just dont know what kind of braided line or # I should be throwing in this situation for flippin and pitchin. Im also thinking about buying the Ardent F700 denny brauer reel, any ideas?

If the cover around the dock is not too heavy, than 40# should do. If you are going to be pitching into heavy cover and brush, you might want to bump it up to around 50-65#.

I use 15# braid and that can get some nice bass through some pretty heavy cover. But I doubt that there's one right answer.

i have pulled quite a few 5-6lb fish on 8lb mono through some of the thickest cover i have ever seen the reason behind this it was the most effective line for throwing the small bait i was using...

I pull fish out of docks with 10,12,15 pound mono. For our spawning season I will spool my flipping stick with 17. It works for me.

Caught the 7 pounder flipping with 15# mono. (see Avitar)

Docks, jetties always have barnacles or some kind of sharp edges where I fish, I get cut off all the time regardless of the line I'm using, probably why I respool so often. I mainly use 15 and 20# braid, 14# mono for 1 kind of set up, get cut off with that too.
