Fat Ika Problem

Featured Replies

You guys are probably getting sick of all my questions, lol.

So I bought some Fat Ika lures and before I fish my soft plastics, I like to practice rigging them so I have an idea of what the heck I am doing out there and not wasting valuable time. I tried rigging the Ika with a 4/0 EWG but cannot seem to get the lure to settle out in a straight fashion. I'm having trouble bending the lure enough to rig it properly, resulting in kinks and whatnot.

I am going to try a twist lock and see if that helps but this is frustrating. I can t-rig a worm or senko no issue but this thing is tough. Any ideas??

Thanks!

What I found helps with the rigging (I rig it backwards, skirt forward) is to use the seam as a guide and take the EWG and insert the hook point in through the skirt section and bring it back out at the first few ribs and then bend the Ika to get the proper hook positioning then insert the hook back into the Ika (again using the seam as a guide) and take note of which rib I inserted the hook and make sure that it comes out the same rib on the opposite side along the seam, then embed the hook point back into the Ika to make it weedless.

I got some Owner Twistlocks in 4/0 and have found this is a fantastic way to rig the Ika along with Ribbit frogs and even Senkos.

I really don't see a downside to using this method of rigging.

There has been a few times that I noticed the skirt being hindered in movement by twistlock style.

I saw this out of the water but once in the water it seems like the problem is close to non-existent due to movement of the bait through the water.

all i hear is this fat ika bait,, apprently i am missing out and need to purchase some

Here's a simple solution: Measure your hook against the Fat Ika. Run the point straight

through the body, bringing the point up so it is either right on the bait or Texposed. Now,

push the eye throught the body so it comes out on top. That's about 1/4" below the skirt

attachement, but you don't need to be exact and you will get the hang of if quickly.

Now, let's take a look at the rigging. The Fat Ika should be straight with the hook

point right up against the plastic,

do it.. get some green pumpkin or watermelon colored ones and rig them with a 4/0 ewg with the skirt up. enjoy catching fish.

Can you make a fat ika out of the twin tail hula grub?

Also you may want to quit peeing in your wetsuit. Watched a documentary on the history channel on shark attacks. The four ppl interviewed all had one thing in common, they peed in their wetsuit :dazed-7:

I don't know about peeing in a wetsuit, but I had a Drill Sergeant tell us to fart in our Goretex to keep warm. What do you suppose that would attract?

dude I don't want to know what that would attract, lol

Haha yeah tiger sharks are apparently attracted to urine, but when the winter surf is up its a great way to keep warm while waiting for a set. :D
