Smallmouth Rod/line

Featured Replies

im thinking about a new rod for smallmouth, what would you reccommend? im thinking about a dobyns savvy spinning in med light and 6'9 long and have 8lb fluorocarbon on my reel. how does this sound and any reccomendations? need answers fast, going to buy that setup tuesday, if not told otherwise haha

The 692 is a good choice, it will cover a number of finesse presentations. The savvy series utilizes some of the lightest blanks in Dobyns lineup. That being said, it will be "light" action. If that's what you want, go for it. It'll work well for dropshot, light tubes, dartheads, grubs, and tossing weightless plastics around.

Fluoro can be a pain on a spinning reel, some brands are more manageable than others. Personally I love fluoro on my spinners, but I use thin diameter stuff with a line conditioner. (sunline sniper, or seaguar inviz-x) You might wanna consider spooling up with a copolymer line and some line condtioner...cheaper and less headaches.

#4 Yo-Zuri has a breaking strength of 8.5 lbs. In gin clear water green is virtually invisible;

purple smoke for stained water.

My river smallie rod is a G.Loomis Bronzeback series.

In terms of line, I tried 8# Nanofil for the first time this weekend and was thrilled with the performance. The casting distance is unlike anything I have ever seen. I didn't have any problems with knots as other have reported.
