Aftermarket Texas Rig Style Hook Keeper

Featured Replies

I love the hook keepers on some of my bass pro shops rods that allow you to hang up your hook without having to unhook it from the soft plastic. Do any of you know of a sort of aftermarket product that I could attach to say, an Avid, that would work? I thought about making one, but don't want it to look ghetto...

Go for the Fuji bait keepers. They run $3.50 and will work for any rod. They have a handful of colors as well. Places like *** will have them.

Looks good, I guess I can put it on backwards and it will fit in between the hook and my bait?

i use a bent paper clip and electrical tape b/c i like to hook them the same way as you....w/o taking the point out of the plastics

like this but i don't have mine projecting near as high.

If I leave my bait on I just wrap the leader around the reel handle, no bait I hang the hook on the bottom guide. Don't use hook keepers and never have had a nicked guide, if I were nervous about it, I'd hang from the cross member on the guide not the ceramic.

It is outrageously ridiculous how resourceful you are. A bent paper clip and electrical tape....really? That's awesome

this is awesome! making this later for a few rods!

I just made one for my son's rod, and it works great.... No more Fuji E-Z Keepers.

That's awesome!

The style keeper you're looking for is a drop shot keeper. They are readily available through rod building suppliers. Technically they are are to be wrapped and finished just like a guide. One of the work-arounds mentioned may be all you're interested in.

until i hit the lottery i'll stick w/ paperclips. 6 for $22.50...how do they sleep at night?! i'll buy ones like that if i come across a better supplier. i will wrap with string and coat w/epoxy as a winter project.

The "supplier" is the inventor of that keeper. I know her personally. That is why I recommended it.

If you have a quality rod you may want quality accessories. The dropshot keepers are made of titanium wire either in black or gold. They won't rust. I use them even on some cheap rods too.

I made a paper clip keeper yesterday, may have all of 30 seconds and no money invested, looks like it work great. If it rusts I'll take another 30 seconds out of my hectic day to make another. I think it's a winner.
