Doug Hannan's snake; what size hook?

They give you a 5/0 on tv

I think they do give you a 5/0 long shank hook.Although I haven't used these snakes I've seen them and I would imagine that a 7/0 Owner offset worm hook would be a pretty good fit.

Yeah you got these in the flea market right I almost bought them

I was wanting some but the $40 starting price from his website is a bit steep to just try them out (for 18 snakes, $2.38 ea with S&H costs).

The $15 price for 3 snakes on ebay ($10 + 5 shipping for $3 ea) is a bit steep too... so I have an order I am waiting on where I got a 3 pack of topwater "snakelike" soft lures for $4 and free shipping.

but to answer the original question, I would stay in the 5/0 range. Too much bigger and the weight may start pulling it underwater or affect the performance.

I suspect you will catch just as many fish

without a hook. Other than people with some

affiliation to the company, I have never heard

anyone reporting that they have caught a bass

on the snake.

NICE!! Well, I guess that saves my $$ and wondering if I catch anything with 'em.

;D I have seen fish hit various stuff on the top of the water here in FL so I know dragonflies, small snakes, little lizards and frogs/toads do get them to bite. I have even seen a mayfly swarm just above the water have a bass jump out and right into the swarm...

Even in my limited fishing experience, I've seen a snake get taken by a smallie. I think i have a spot where this bait will kill, tons of snakes, tons of smallies.

I thought snake threads get nuked like Banjo Minnow or Kicktail usually?

Josh, I caught a nice smallie one time that had been following a snake around. The only reason I saw it was because the snake came near me and I jumped up onto a rock. I tossed a bait down and bam! Fish on.

did you buy the full pack from his website or the 3 pack from ebay?

Neither. Bought a lot of baits from a guy here, two snakes were included in the lot.

Dan, the spot at the rapidan (downstream, saw 5 on one trip, same vicinity), and a spot I frequent on the Rapp has a ton of snakes in the summer. This should work for me.

That is still the case. I saw New Angler's

purchase and let him ask about the hook.

It should have ended there, but rather than

editing, lets just end it here.

Goodnight Irene.
