I'm thinking of building a homemade rod rack, and would like to see some of the ones some of you have made.... I'm interested in racks for the home or shop.... So..... let's see your rack!

I haven't done it yet or seen it done, but a buddy told me about pretty cool idea that doesn't cost too much. You get 2 of those swimming pool noodles and mount them on the wall, one just above the floor and the other one up about 5 feet. The one mounted near the floor you drill 1 1/4 inch holes about 1 inch deep and 4 inches apart. This is where the butt ends of the rods slide in. Then in the noodle about 5 feet up you cut corresponding slits, directly above the holes you already drilled. This is where the tops of the rods slip in. It is probably easier to do the drilling and slit cutting before the noodles get mounted. I think the noodles are 5 feet long so you could get 14 rods in each with 2 inches left over on each end.

I made one in my shop out of 1 1/2" schedule 40 plastic pipe and various fittings. It is a 3 level deal that holds the rods by the handle at slightly different angles out from the wall. It holds 30 rods now and I'm thinking of expansion.

At no point was any measuring involved and all the pipe was cut using my sawzall. Just line stuff up by eye and cut away. It is a tribute to indigent caucasian engineering. I mounted it to the wall using 4" deck screws and 2x4 scraps. I wish I knew how to post pictures.

The fist one is a wall rack for some fly rods. It's just a couple of coat racks turned sideways.

This one took a little more doing but it works great and I love it. It has casters under it to roll it around.

I experimented with a few different styles etc and found the Berkley combo rack kinda worked the best.

wont storing them horizontally (as in the flyfishing rods shown above) damage or permanently bend them?? i guess it would create a deformation over time...

im thinking about building a rod/rifle rack... still looking for ideas... i guess wood is the way to go, but i dont really think wood would look good in my room... maybe PVC painted black?? if i ever do it, ill post up pics here...

After 10-12 years with a couple of those rods and over 15 for one, my answer is nope, they are not bent or deformed in any discernable way. They are beautiful rods and I want to display them, I don't have any ceilings high enough to display 9'+ rods vertically. All these rods fish like the day I bought or built them.

thanx!! i was concerned because on my archery days, i wouldnt want to store my arrows like that for long periods of time...

I made one once out of a portable clothes rack and plywood. Wouldn't show a picture of it even if I could. Redneck ingenuity at its finest, even left it on the casters so I could roll it around!
