salt water applications for bass

Featured Replies

ive heard of some freshwater applications used to target saltwater spiecies, but does anyone know of any saltwater applications to use for bass.. thanks ... sorry b.r. staff if ended up in wrong thread..i will use this as example -

saltwater application to use for bass- freshwater man plans on site fishing bass for the day, so he calls saltwater man ,and askes to borrow his flats boat with a polling platform ..that was designed for targeting tailing redfish ..this way he can be as silent as possible and see out a greater distance when site fishing these bass ..this is just a example or refrerance of what im asking ..

Aren't there TONS of saltwater baits used in bass fishing?

Saltwater uses jerks and divers/crankbaits and such just like in fresh water LMB fishing.

I've always wanted to huck on of these babys though. Would be fun figuring out the correct colors and retrieve to ultimately slay some big mama's on them.

I've been fishing freshwater for 60 years and saltwater for 30 so I've caught a fish or 2.  First of all I think you are talking about inshore saltwater, beach , piers bridges, and ICW, off shore is a whole different ballgame.

When I first moved to Florida I bought everything under the sun for inshore fishing......big mistake.  I paid close attention to the guys fishing inshore everyday( casters, not bait fisherman)and saw what they used, so much different than the average bass angler.  Many I know just carry a 5 gal bucket with about 4 or 5 lures hanging on the side with some terminal tackle inside, I carry a fanny pack and others just have 1 lure on their rod and that''s all they have with them.

That being said most bass lures will work fine, but in reality all you need is a spoon, hard jerkbait, top lure and a feather, I seldom vary the weights and use the same ones all the time and I use them for bass as well......fish are fish, with the exception of some species require different presentations like live crabs or sand fleas, but for the most part the spoon catches more than all the others put together.

What I wouldn't do is use a 20 or 30 dollar lure, they get mangled or bit in half.

Many of us saltwater guys severed our relationship with the baitmonkey ages ago.

Those lures on the website are nothing more than jigs( they look good ), we call them feathers and probably generic ones will catch as many fish

Many of the lures northeast surfcasters use for striped bass can be used for freshwater bass fishing. In many cases they are often sluggos, rebels or other "bass" lures in larger sizes.

Byron Velvick was one of the very first, if not the first person to use a swimbait....and he got that idea from his days as a saltwater guide. Now look at how far the swimbait craze has come...

The most popular/obvious one that comes to mind is the drop shot.  But it's called a different name in saltwater.
