Which jigheads to use with 5" Hula Grubs and Baby Paca Craws?

Featured Replies

Looking for some opinions on which jig brand to use with Yamamoto 5" Hula Grubs and Netbait Baby Paca Craws. These are two of my go-to baits and I'm fresh out of jig heads. Typically I would buy football type, but I have never been totally satisfied with the brands I have used.

I fish ponds, perhaps 5'-15' deep and I will make a trip to Kentucky Lake in a few weeks so I will need a heavier weight to get me deeper quicker.

Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

try a sneed's shaky head, their made in my home town, they are KILLER jig heads, there made with mustad ultra-point hooks. their website is www.sneedproducts.com check em' out. :D

Do you prefer the weedless skirt on the football jigs?

Would you use shaky head jigs for pond fishing with grubs or craws? What benefit do shaky heads offer?

What size jig would you use in say 20-30' of water at Lake Barkley?

i like the e2 shakey jig to have it stand up. little twitches will move the claws.

i also like 1/4oz arkie jig heads for the hula grubs. i think theyre a good all around jig for different conditons. baby paca craws id put on a 7/16oz eakins jig with matching skirt.

I throw hula grubs almost always on a 1/4 oz. Arkie jig.  I've been thinking about experimenting with a 1/8 oz. or 3/16 oz. shaky style jig for paca craws, chigger craws, etc for a more finesse presentation.

Love Hula Grubs for prespawn smallmouth.  1/4 football heads with exposed hooks.  That works to 20 feet.  Heavy wind or deeper requires 3/8 to 1/2 ounce. I like 1/4 oz Lucky Strike shakee football heads for Yum Craw Papi baits.

shaky heads are a killer pond bait, the advantage to using them, especially with craws is they stand up putting the bait in the natural defencive position of the crawfish. in 20-30 foot of water i would use a 3/8 oz jighead.
