..Hey guys i was wondering if anybody in this forum has ever fished from shore or on a boat,this lake in miami-dade its on the, east side of the Palmetto Expressway on sw 56street ( Miller drive) and sw 72 avenue.the lake has 2 small wooded islands in the middle & its a relatively shallow lake( id say 10ft)., a long time time ago, back in the early 80's before it was all developed,i went fishing with my uncle,using live worms & a bobber , i got 3 good size bass,the biggest was 9lbs.this lake has great fish activity.Does anybody know if this lake is know for good fishing? and does this lake have a name?..i appricate your help guys. godbless.

I have been told that one of those lakes is called lake cantalina. Very big bass have been caught in there. I saw the pics.

That lake is called lake cantalina. Bigfish are in that lake.

no this lake im talking about is called (MARINA LAKE) its right across from tropical park...the 1 ue talking about ( LAKE CATALINA) is a big deep water lake a lil west of tropical park.a buddy lives there and says lake catalina is over 30ft deep right off the drop behind his house & that he has seen big fish there...u can looks at both lakes closely on GOOGLE MAPS.

does anyone know of any bank access to either one of these lakes?

i was driving around this lake trying 2 find a spot 2 fish,unfortutnately its all developed all around with homes and office buildings,i was able to go thru the office building parking lots on sunday it was a ghost town & take a few casts with a rattle trap. but i left there is private property sighs all over.t..i saw an older man cutting his grass & the lake behind his house,i told him i was looking 2 buy the house next 2 him just 2 get him talking about the lake n the fish in it.the lake has 2 islands in the middle,he said his grand kids fish it all the time & they catch nice sized bass & cat fish and they also do campfire n campout on the islands.....that really made me wanna buy the house next 2 him haha

Let me put this to an end. Lake catalina is surrounded by houses and it is a very good lake, clearwater, deep. the one that jonny is talking about is east to tropical park. Let me tell you i have heard very good stories about that lake( twin island lake) but all the stories were before the new construction was done on the highway. It used to be a very clear lake like its brother(lake catalina) but the construction has turned the water to a very nasty mud color. As you can imagine this pollution has killed a lot of the fish. I've been there twice and i have caught a total of 3 fish. Neither of them topping 1.5 pounds. I live in this area and i know these lakes like the back of my hand.

 

Captain shane..... the only boat ramps they have are private and belong to the owners.

Captain_nick is dead on.  I have a family member which lives on the Lake Catelina, only the homeowners have access to that lake.  Twin Island Lake was very nice back in the day (80's).  There were some ropes hanging from the pine trees which we used to swing from, I remember there was a car at the bottom of the lake which you would hit if you swung from a platform in the pine trees, it's a miracle we survived!  It's all built up now, and I suspect the only access to that lake is via the homeowners or business owners on the lake.  Just head out west of Tamiami Trail, the canals are loaded with fish these days.

Tons of lakes in the Kendall area, back in the 70's and 80's fishing was so good, rarely a day you got skunked. But, fast forward, the progress.

If any remember when 137 was a 2 lane road, the entire way. You could pull off anywhere at one of the many lakes/canals/rockpits and land some good ones any time you wanted. As a kid, we use to go to larry and penny thompson park (by the prison), nice lake, good fishing.

But the development of these areas has closed most to property owners. As a kid, we used to fish devonaire a lot, caught bass and bream, around the late 80's, early 90's it got terrible, rarely anything caught, if anything, a bunch of pacu the local kids would throw in there out of their fish tanks.

Even the Hammocks had good fishing in the early development, now it's yuck. The price of progress. Glad I left, it's crazazy at "the bottom".

We would even fish the drainage lakes/ponds on the turnpike entrances/exits and catch fish...ride our bikes down there in cutler ridge...til some kid stole my bike as I was fishing the other side of the canal, right there at caribbean and us1. that sucked. Man, we had a blast in Miami growing up in the 70's and 80's.

Was a different time, different place. But some GREAT memories.

As development moved in, many of these lakes were under attacked from people taking every fish that they could catch and killing them. Day after day if a lake produced, the crowds would get larger and soon fish populations were devastated. Instead of catch what you can eat and throw the rest back, it was take everything that swims. These smaller lakes can be impacted very easily.
