I was wondering what pound test of flurocarbon line everyone uses for shaky heads. I have been using 8 but I thinking about going down to 6 or 7 or maybe go back up to 10 becuase ive had a few break offs. I fish slightly stained water if that makes a difference and also thinking about trying sunline sniper 7 pound test if someone could tell me about it and if it may allow me to get more bites over my 8 pound test seaguar.

Depends on a few things. I use braid as main line, and fluro leaders, I will use 6lb all they way up to 15 depending on cover and or water clarity. But most of the time 8. If I am not getting bit with 8lb line, the way my mind works, I don't think it's because of a line issue, it's usually because I am not around fish, or that type of presentation is not what they want. Many times I have fished a good spot with a shakey head on light tackle hauling water, only to turn around and go back with a dropshot or slow falling weightless plastic and caught fish, some times with even bigger line and/or baits too.

I do the same. I use 10lb Braid with a 8lb Fluoro leader. The leader is about the length of the rod. The key is in the presentation. You need to remember that braid has no stretch and Fluoro is a little more forgiving but not as much as mono. That means that every twitch needs to be even more subtle than you think or else you are jerking the weight around too much. I cast out, let it sink on a semi-slack line and then give it the most subtle of twitches. If no bite I may hop it into a new position and repeat the subtle twitches.

Assuming we are using 1/8 to 3/16 oz shakeyhead weights 8# floro is just fine. Unless you are fishing swimming pool clear water during certain times of the year you shouldn't need to go any lighter especially if it is common to get 5+ lb fish on your waters.

I use 8# invisix and and sniper. To me 7# sniper wont catch you any more fish by downsizing the line but is touch more sensitive in my hand over invisix. The invisix is touch more manageable so only minor differences. Just spray the line with KVD line and lure and close the bail by hand and you will be set.

What line test and bait weights are recommended on your rod?

I would think a 6 or 8 pound test flourocarbon line would suffice on a spinning rig and 10 pound flurocarbon line on a baitcaster.

Remember this is a finesse presentation and the lightest line you can use is in your favor.

I use 8 pound test on a spinning rig as I throw the shaky head into lots of structure and grass. Sometimes I will go down to 6 pound test but 99% of the time it is 8 pound test.

I have my spinner set up with 10# power pro with an 8# fluro leader.

I got straight fc for shakey heads. I usually use a Dobyns Champion 702c with a 51e. I have 10# Sunline Sniper on here an I reeeaaallly like it. I don't go anything over 1/4oz.
