Hook Removal Tool Help

Featured Replies

It seems like an eternity every time I catch a fish that I try to remove the stinking thing out. Any recommendations on a tool to remove the hooks? Maybe my technique could be improved. Lol

I have used a lot of hook remover but the best by far is good ole needle nose pliers. I like the cheap ones from harbor freight because it seems like with the cheap components it makes them lighter. Also it doesn't hurt my feelings if after i done removing the hook I toss the Fish on The deck of the boat and the pliers in the water. (Yes that did actually happen Lol).

I like the price tag on that. :)

Been there as well lol. I also cut the tag end off a knot last year and proceeded to toss my braid scissors in the lake.. :embarassed2:

I just use forceps but my brother uses something like this...1-11011G0143L95.jpg

ROTFLMAO, that is great!

try pinching the barb down. many very experienced members say it does not lead to lost fish.

if the eye of the hook is outside the fish, use the palm of ur hand to pop the hook. you'll see tons of guys using this method on youtube while removing jigs w/ stout hooks.

this works great if they swallow it:

So I ended up buying the hook remover (the one from Bass Pro) and man what a difference. A whole easier to remove the hook. I know that there are manual methods. But for this newbie it did the trick. Thanks all for the help with this.
