Lure Combos?

Featured Replies

Just curious, but does anyone have a set of lure combinations that they throw with two people in the boat? For example, when fishing with a partner, the first person in the boat throws a shallow diving crankbait and the second follows up with a jig. This has proven to be successful for me (especially pre-spawn) and I was wondering if anyone uses a similar method and what lure combinations do you use?

When my wife fishes with me, she does pretty good behind me with a Senko or an 7" Anaconda, basically all she ever uses.

I don't know that one of my buddies and I throw different baits to elicit a strike from one or the other.  We have, a buzz bait in front and a spinnerbait in the back.  When I partner up and we are looking for fish or  pre-fishing for an event we never throw the same bait until we find what the fish want and how they want it.  That's pretty fundemental. Even if we narrow it to a bait type and size, we still try to dial in a color and presentation.  You just need to use a bait that follows the rate of speed you are covering water with.

we usually use different lures (jig and jerkbait for example) to see whats on the menu for the day. we dont have any set combos, just whatever you feel like tossing around that day. one guy doing a bottom bait and another doing something higher in the water column is a good starting point.

once we find out where they are and what type of bait they want, we start changing size, retrieve speed and/or action, and color.

ive had the bite stop using a watermelon (green) jig and trailer and something as subtle as changing it to green craw (green with brown strands) made all the difference in the world. even switched back to watermelon to prove to myself that it was the color. this particular example involved river smallmouth in clear 2-8 ft depths.
