Topo Apps For Phones

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone else uses topo maps on their phone.  Since this is cheaper than buying new electronics for my boat with a GPS, I use an ap by navionics on my iphone which isn't too bad.  There are a few smaller lakes that it doesn't have details on, but for the most part it's pretty good.

I'm also wondering if you can purchase fairly inexpensive topo maps for 'car gps' units such as a garmin that I could 'strap' onto my boat.  It may not be as pretty as a GPS depthfinder, but it may be practical.

I use BackCountry Navigator app on my android phone. It has topos ,satellite image, waypoints, tracking etc. Also use it when hunting.

The navionics app is the best I have found for my iPhone. Add a life proof case and a cheap car phone mount and you have a good GPS,topo, satellites for the boat. You can also drop pins (waypoints) and individually name them to let you know what structure or cover is there.

there are a lot of smaller lakes and ponds that are not shown on Navionics. Back country app you can find lake/pond your fishing on satellite put cursor on it then switch to topo view and get and idea of the bottom layout.

The navionics app I bought doesn't appear to have several of the pools of the Mississippi in it's topo maps. Needless to say, I was disappointed with it.

I was wondering how you mount you cell phone car mount on your boat.  I don't think the suction mounts will stay on my windwhield since it's not perfectly flat and it may fall when going over waves.  I was thinking mounting some velcro on the side of my driver's console but even that may not hold with the waves.  Thoughts? Suggestions?
