Thinking about going myself Sat.  Smallmouth were on the rocky banks from the locks on down about 3 weeks ago.

00 Mod was catching them on the other side last Sunday. I'm sure we will fish both sides.

I'm fishing with my buddy and Tennessee River guide, Speedy Madewell

and another friend. We will be in a blue & white BayRanger, center counsel.

Come over and say Hey!  We will share some tips if we have any.

I didn't make it today and I guess I am lucky I didn't.  Had no idea the flood gates are currently open even after looking at the generation schedule and level nearly everyday.  I seldom look at the flow rate but guess I need to pay more attention :cry4:

Flood gates open are GREAT for smallie fishing

Saturday was a bust and a big sauger tournament scheduled for today was cancelled.

My three man group caught a small largemouth, one skipjack, two big drum and a +/- 3lb

smallmouth. The bite was terrible early and then went to -0- from 10:00 to 4:00 when we

threw in the towel.

We talked to a lot guys who had the same luck. We did not talk to a single sauger fisherman

that caught a fish,

We were told by some locals and a guide that the fish completely turned off when the

gates were opened last week. The theory is that although there has  NOT been a shad

kill, millions have come through the gates. I don't know, but the fishing sucked!

That has always been my experience over the last 30 years when the gates are open.  I have caught a few north of Diamond Island like that but nothing up closer to the dam.  I still can't figure where this water is coming from but I guess it rained a lot somewhere.  Maybe it will help the lower Miss. river at least.

I am going on Pickwick, Tuesday Jan. 8th. Thinking about putting in at Waterloo.

Did not get to go. I wound up in a doctors office getting a shot and a prescription.

I at least hit my local lake today and caught my first fish of the year.  Not much but at least a fish!!!

Brother and another friend launched at Eastport and fished toward trace bridge and caught 1 decent LM and 1 stripe....only two fish all day

I spent the last two days on the lake. Caught 15 LM Monday early. I could only catch 6 today. All on ARigs. The bite died each day after 11. The temps were 45/46. Not seeing any shad dead or alive.

I was there yesterday afternoon and fished into the night unroll hard rain hit...throwing a vernier powerworm 5 inch Curley tail worked great in black with charterese tail...we put in at state park marina and fish the big rock dam right outside the marina...we caught around 15-25 fish

Berkely not vernier
