Mounting A Solar Panel

Featured Replies

As a Christmas gift, I recieved a Rally 5W Solar Panel battery charger. Seems like it'd be a decent thing to have to keep the batteries charging a little bit while I'm out on the lakes. Question I have is - where to mount it? I have a 16 ft Procraft with 90HP Merc. I can't really mount it to the deck on the carpet because I don't want it to be stepped on when someone is fishing from the back. I was thinking Velcro to the top of the outboard, but I didn't know how well that would work, or if the vibration would mess with it. Any ideas on good places to mount it?

Thanks,

Steve

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think it will give you much of a boost compared to the space it will take up.

and mounting it on the motor with velcro.........I would be worried about the heat of summer heating the adhesive up and then letting go.

I have been wondering about a use for those since seeing them at bass pro.......but I have not been able to determine a need that would make the hassling with them a cost effective venture.

i would be interested in hearing the outcome though.

I didn't even think about the heat, good point.

It was a gift to me from someone, so I figure I'll try it out and see how it works. May not give much of a boost, but if I can find a place to mount it that isn't in the way, it can't hurt, right?

The only solar chargers I have seen have been mounted to boat lifts and docks.

Those panels are designed to be trickle chargers to keep your battery topped off when in storage.  Use it for that and be happy with it.

Thanks, I'll do that.

You will need to store outside with no cover. I'd return and tradde for a bunch of needed baits.
