Thoughts on my lure choices?

Featured Replies

I'm headed out this weekend to a lake that is still pretty chilly and clear for smallies.  I have 5 rods to bring: 3 baitcasters and 2 spinning.  After reading many threads on here about cold water fishing, this is the plan I have come up with.  Thoughts?

Baitcasters:

- blade bait

- suspending deep diving jerkbait

- jig w/craw trailer

Spinning:

- Drop shot

- tube

Depending on how chilly, I might replace the blade bait with another jig, either hair, or a bigger or smaller profile then the one you have tied on

I think that is a pretty good line up. Without success I might add a CRig. With a soft something or even a hard bait like an original Rapala.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I don't have any hair jigs, but I may go pick some up.  I was planning on having a lipless crank on standby if the blade bait doesn't work out,  I'll have to pre-tie some c-rigs.

Good choice to start. I would also have some hair jigs, lipless cranks and a shallower susp. jerkbait ready to go.

Thanks for the reply Backwater.  I guess I should've listed my standby lures since I was thinking of having a shallower diver ready.  But at least it's givng me a little confidence that I'm on the right track.

I've also had success w/ a 3/8 white single colo. spinnerbait (slow rolling around stumps) and a light weight carolina rigged lunker city fin s fish in white

I like your choices!

my only addendum to the mix would be a shad or crawfish colored #7 shad rap,or a white ZOOM brand fat albert tail on a 3/16 oz. head in that order.
