Mississippi River Bass Fishing In Winter..

Featured Replies

I have a lot of questions, but first thing.  Would I be wasting my time trying to fish back waters of the river this time of year? The river is mostly still frozen over so I know those back water creeks and run offs will still be frozen too, where should i start? Any advice would be awesome!!

I live near the Mississippi river and I avoid it like the plague in the winter.

You can however catch Bass (smallmouths) below some of the spillways and dams. You can

also find Largemouths in some of the backwaters that get direct sunlight and warm up first.

Overall though, fishing has always been crazy tough for me out there.

What part of the Mississippi are you wanting to know about?

I grew up near st. Louis and always wondered if anyone bass fished the big muddy in that area.
