Coton Cordell Super Spot?

Featured Replies

Thank you to everyone that replied to my first topic about wondering what you guys thought about them. Now im wondering what is the best way to fish these? Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Roby

Like I said in your last post, one of the best attributes of the Super Spot is it's versatility. They can be burned over grass, ripped through grass, or crawled back to the boat. You can jig them up and down, the yo-yo retrieve, or just reel and pause.

My favorite two ways are to rip it out of the grass and to reel and pause or sweep and pause. I like to rip it in the early summer and in the fall. The reel/sweep and pause works best in early spring on into early summer.

Ok cool i will try the swing and pause and the reel and pause. Thanks for the reply.

It's pretty hard to fish them wrong.  Steady retrieve, pause, jerk, yo-yo off the bottom, etc etc.  It's a really versatile lure.  You've just got to figure out what the fish want at that specific time.

A better lipless crank than Rat L Traps, if not the best lipless crank out there, especially for the price. They sink a bit slower than Rat L Traps but they have a little bit wider wiggle. I like both of them though.

on a recent BassPros episode, they said that the spot can be fished slower than other rattlebaits because its slower fall.

That's why I like them.

The biggest thing that I can't say enough about the Spot is that when it is fished slow it still has action. Some of the other lipless baits have little to no action unless they are retrieved at a medium to fast retrieve. That just isn't the case with the Spot.

...which seems to translate to it sailing pretty badly on me, especially with longer casts.  :) Anyone else?

Bingo

And even though it isn't actually designed to do it, it can nose stand if you keep just a tad bit of pressure on it.

Two things this antiquated design does better than half of the new modern (overpriced) lipless cranks out there do.

Still one of the best lipless crank designs ever made.

Explain "Sailing"

This has been one of my mainstays for years now. And at under $2.00 at BPS, how can you go wrong. Never had much success on "traps". Spots and Redeye Shads now my favorites. Excalibur One Knockers will be used this year for a little different sound.

It just works much better than just about all of 'em.
