I read a Bassmaster article in the magazine a couple years ago where this dude was fishing in Florida from Jan.- March. He was fishing 3 days leading up to the full moon, and 3 days coming off one. Said it increases your odds at a big one. Does anyone have any increased luck around the full moon phases? The guy did catch a 14 pounder, but I want more.

I've read studies that showed an unusually large number of record fish are caught 3 days prior and following a full moon and the day of the half moon. Never paid much attention to if regarding the big fish I've caught though. Very rarely have I ever done any good the day of the full moon though. 

The full moon philosophy has been around for years. Many years.

 

Some old geezers, like me, know that the first full moon after the Dogwoods have blossomed in Virginia means that the bass are on their beds.

 

Mother Nature is tricky and for some reason full moon fishing can be more productive than other moon phases.

 

I learned back in high school that the moon's gravity pulls on the earth's waters.

 

Hopefully some of you guys can explain the science behind a full moon.

 

All I know is that a full moon is the time hit the water and wet a line or two.

I thought it might be that they were able to see better and find the bait easier with some light. No science behind that, just a thought. Sometimes we over think things.

I think I'm with you, Bob. I do love fishing all night the night of a full moon when it's clear and calm. 

The moon was surely big this morning.

I don't really follow solunar tables myself, but my experience has shown me that the bite will usually last longer during a full, new and half moon. Fish live under enormous amounts of pressure in water, and gravity from the moon has a pretty large effect on that. 

 

Whether we like/realize it or not, anybody who fishes tidal water and notices differences in fish location at various tides is fishing based on moon phase/position. 

 

I understand the science of moon phase, but I like to think that I too can feel it's forces and can in turn relate to the fish (not sure if this is even remotely true, but it's cool to think so.)

 

On a side note, I find that barometric pressure has a larger effect on fish feeding than moon phase. But like anything else, if it boosts an anglers confidence then they're likely to catch more fish regardless.
