Best Punching Rod?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a punching rod and plan on pitching between 1 1/2 to 2 oz. jigs.  I just want something that performs very well and thats not so heavy that i dont wanna use.

If money is no option, DX795, I have two and I love them dearly.  They're my favorite flip stick bar none.  Two rods I had a lot of time with last year, and was quite pleasantly surprised by are the Carrot Stix Wild Black 7-6 and 8'.  The 7-6 punches extremely well, and is a little more forgiving than the 8.  The 8' is technically a swimbait rod, however it does very very well with 1-2 ounce punch rigs.  It's very powerful and has a very good feel for a sub $140 rod.

do you think that the Dobyn's Savvy 766 Flip/punch rod would be a good choice for the money?

+1 on the DX795, amazing rod. Perfect flip/punch rod!

For my money, I'd actually take the 7-6H Wild Black over the Savvy.  Little less money, as good, or better, materials than what you get in that series, and it performs very well.

Powell 766.

x2 the powell max 766 is a beast of a rod

The savvy is a great rod, I have the 766FLIP for punching the Cali delta and love it so far, my next will be a 744 champ extreme though again for fishing the delta and the mother lode lakes around here, you really can't go wrong with anything from the dobyns lineup.

I'd go with a duckett 7'6" XH, absolutely love this rod for punching/flipping.

I'm also going to suggest a Powell, the 7105 flip punch rod, I really enjoy flipping with this rod. I have a Citica E 201 mounted on it spooled with 65# PP Super 8 Slick and they fish great together, it's a fairly light weight combo that balances well and has really good sensitivity. It has a slightly softer tip than most other flipping rods which I think helps in two areas, pitching ease/accuracy and handling braid. I'm very happy with mine.

I posted about the Powell 766, but i bought a Cumara 7'7"H during the christmas sale (aa steal) and havent even put a reel on it yet. It will be a punch rod, im sure it will be a beast.

I have too many flipping sticks but i really want to try the Powell 806 Punch rod. (TW exclusive)
