Citica Or Orra Sx?

Featured Replies

I thought I was set on the Shimano Citica, but I picked up the Abu Orra sx the other day and fell in love with it.  I know the orra feels a little heavier but not enough to bother me.  I just wanted to ask some of you that have or have had experince with both of these reels.

Gee, I better not comment because people on here cant deal with peoples opinions without getting into personal attacks and being immature.

I'll do it for you. Get the Citica.

Shimano!

IN that price range I would get a Lew's SS

I love my Citicas and Curados!  Never owned a SX though so couldn't say.

I know that the bearings are better in the Shimano, Abu gets to that price point by using a lesser grade bearings and brass gearing

I have the orra and have found it to be a good reel. I've brought in a few big pike on mine and its held up well with a solid drag. I wouldn't pay full price though they can be had for almost half off on the bay.

Just looked at it online after you commented.  Looks like a good reel, and the external lube port is a plus also.  I may have to go see if Gander MTN has one and try it out.  Thanks

It is a wonderful reel for the price. Most people will tell you that.

I feel like Abu reels only shine when you get to the Revo's. The worm gears on the lower end models like to crap out after a while (for me anyway), read some reviews about the Orra SX and you will see that about that model, it is a glaring issue to me.

I do however love my Orra spinner howeveer.

I own a few Orra SX's and have had them for several years and had no problems.

If your gonna pay 130 bucks for a Citica and like Abu stuff, why not get the Revo S? The Orra is a good reel no doubt but it's kinda of a tank. The S is much lighter and a better all around reel.

But if you only have those to choose from, I'd go with the Citica. The Orra just wasn't my cup o tea.

A friend of mine has an Orra, and I hate it. I've owned a Citica, and it would be a no brainer for me to choose between these two. Citica in a heartbeat!

For me, a Citica. I like the way the Orra feels in hand but I've never fished it and I don't like the way the braking works with 3 on always. I've never fished the new Citica either but I have the older Citica E and it is very good, I really enjoy fishing mine. The brakes can be on or off, all six at once, or zero, or anything in between. I don't believe the new G model is any different mechanically than the old one and it was very comfortable in hand and mounted on a rod, even if just slightly larger than the E was.

I own two citicas and would get another. I haven't used the Abu so I cannot speak to the quality. If you notice a weight difference in your hand then I would recommend trying them both on the rod you intend on using because that heavier weight may be a positive or a negative depending on the rod.
