Powell Diesel Vs Academy Ethos

Featured Replies

Looking for a cheaper rod. Going to use as a multi purpose rod. For the people who have tried both, which one do you like better? I can buy either one for $49.

Thanks

I dont have both but I have a 705cb diesel and the 723cef diesel and the are great rods for the money. I have no complaints with either one they are also fairly light for that price range rod.

Diesel is a great rod, you can't argue with Powell's quality. Where are you getting them if I may ask? I thought about picking one up for myself.

The powell is coming from a local store in Moilton AL.

Close, but not close enough, lol. Thanks though.

Powell. Hands down. Their 765 is a great flipping stick too. Their 705 glass rod is one of the better cranking rods I've ever used.

Whats the warranty with Powell and with the store your buying it from?

I have used 10-20 casts a few different Ethos rods from Academy. They are good rods, Sensitivity is fair. Its not my Loomis or Crucial, but they are good rods. Plus Academy has a no hassle return policy on them. Any Academy, any place, as long as you have your receipt.

I cant speak of the Powell, as I have never even seen one, but after being on these boards for awhile, I have noticed the majority of people who own them here, have nothing but good things to say about them.

Thats one downside to the powell diesel there is no warranty. I have been using powells for several years including the max and endurance rods never have had a need for a warranty.

I looked at those acadmey rods when I was up in the pensacola , it was hard to find one that didn't have a bend it..

I've been using the Powell Diesel spinning rod with a Shimano 2500 & 6 lb flouro for dropshot and I really like it. It's lighter than I expected and it has good sensitivity.  I'm definitely going to check out some of Powell's other rods in the future.

I bought the powell diesel. It feels real good. I hope it will do what I intend to do with it. Thanks for all the replies

Yeah, I like that rod a lot too. It's inexpensive so you don't high end components on them but they are really good for the money. I almost want to buy a second one because I like this one so much.

I have 2 of the spinning rods and 1 765 casting rod. It's hard to beat 3 rods for $175. Not the lightest ever but not a tank either.
