I decided drop shotting was going to be the presentation I would work on mastering this season and was wondering what you all think about these from VMC?  The few times I've used the application, I've tied a swivel to my main line and then rigged my drop line with a palomar knot midway between the swivel and weight.  Would this be a better setup as the swivel is at the point of twist?

Same with me. Its my 2013 fishing goal. In the time I did it last season I fell in love with these. They are my primary drop shot hooks now.

It helps that I went to walmart this winter and they had them on clearance for a $1 a pack. I took ann the #1s they had.

I use these for all my dropshotting. They are actuAlly pretty effective at reducing line twist and i havent had any issues with them. I bought 10 packs for a $1 a piece at my walmart too lol.

They are about the only hooks I use. I have caught many fish with zero problems. Run your main line throught the top part of the hook. For the bottom part use a lighter line for the leader to weight section. Reason being, say you snag your weight in some rocks, chances are the lighter line will break first thus saving your hook at bait. Although if you snag your hook on say a some brush you are pretty much SOL and will be taken... hook, line, and sinker!

For me it would be an 8# floro main line with a 4# mono leader to the weight.

I purchased some to give a try this year.  I myself have no confidence in drop shotting so I will dedicate some time this ear to do so!

Felix,  Why the #1 vs. the 1/0?  Action? 

I used the Spinshot hooks last year and was well pleased with them. After a few hours of use, there was some line twist but so much that I went to a swivel above. 

 

A friend who was also using them reported hooks bending. I did not experience that with either of the two 3 1/2 lb, smallies I landed using a 3" bait on a #2 hook. I'm thinking that I may have had a lighter drag setting and played these fish longer. The line was 6 lb. Sensation.

Just because of the smaller profile. Didn't feel I needed the bigger hook. The largest bait I use is the Zoom super fluke and it works just fine.

I did have one bend on me but that's because of how good the Smallmouth took the bait. The bend came from me dislodging it with pliers. Otherwise it held up all the way to the boat.

Thanks guys. I picked up a pack of 1/0 and 2/0  today at BPS and will be checking out the local WallyWorlds for closeouts in the smaller size.  I really like the idea of using different line weights above and below the hook.  I may still use a swivel above as I prefer braid as my main line for the sensitivity factor although if  I try this out in shallower water I may just go to a combo with straight flouro. 

I'm thinking an assortment of lighter weights (I used 1/4 for working 15ft.) for the shallower work. Anyone go lighter than 1/8oz. and if so could you still feel bottom with it?
