Help Choosing A Hook Please

Featured Replies

I purchased a pack of LFT swimbaits.  I got a 3.5" and 4.5" LFT Boot Tail Magic Shad.  I bought jigheads as I just could not find a keel weighted hook that looked like it would work.

Anyone use these?

Anyone have success with a weedless Keel weighted hook for these?

LFT makes a hook that is specific but it looks as if they are putting the weight on themselves or something.  Website does not allow you to specify weight......wierd.

I like fishing a lot of the plastic type swimbaits with a jighead rather than a weighted hook. I tried several, I even bought a mold and made my own weighted hooks but I just rather the jighead as it fits my use of them more which is slow swimming with stopping it and letting it fall straight down in 12' of water so the jighead works for me.

Good Luck finding a hook to fit that bait - I've given up.

I use them a trailers but that's about it.

I've even drop shotted the small one with some success.

That is not a bright future! lol

I intend to put it on a jighead but want to be able to swin through brush.

Maybe someone here has the answer for both of us A-JAy! lol

Would a scrounger jig head work?

I'm not familiar with that particular bait, but I do use flukes quite a bit.  When I fish them weedless, which I do almost daily for bass fishing, I use an ordinary 4/0 worm hook, I prefer them to the EWG.  When I can fish them without being weedless I like putting them on a jig head, my go to heads are 1/4 oz DOA's and mirrorlures.  There are many out here that care to spend less on a jig head and they use Walmart lead heads which are pretty inexpensive, I always have a couple of packs with me just in case, I have seen (me too) countless numbers of fish 30" and more being caught on them.  The only reason I like the DOA's better is that the bait is more secure on the head.

TriCity, I visited the following web page as you did and all I can add to the discussion is that the weighted hook was designed for that specific swimbait.

The major problem in the fishing industry is that there are no specific guidelines for terminal tackle. What one manufacturer states may or may not be the same as another company when making comparisons and purchasing your terminal tackle. So a Gammy 4/0 EWG may not be the same as an Owner 4/0 EWG.

The fun of swimbait fishing is that you can use any hook or weight you want.

Maybe the guys at Dance's, Castaways, Pat's Sporting Goods, Tackle Express, Green Top or BPS can help you with selecting the best hook for the swimbait.

As you know, there are no rules in bass fishing and you can rig any bait in any manner and give it a try.

Let us know what you find out and how you decided to rig the swimbait.

I use Mustad Ultra Point Power Lock Plus in 3/0 1/8 oz. The weight on these slide foward or back for different fall angles. I also have an extra bunch of these hooks cheap if ya need.
