When I drop shot in deep water ( water from 10 to 25 ft.) I use a 1/2 oz. weight.Do you guys go bigger or stay lite?

1/2 ounce is my go to size from 6 feet to 50 feet.  Generally if I am dropshotting I am fishing the bottom, and I want it down there 3 seconds ago.

I normally stick to 3/8 and 1/2 oz weights but that is coming from a new guy haha

It should depend on wind and current. 1/4 oz is heavy enough in clam normal lake conditions for 6-8 lb line and 3" to 6" finesse worm used for most drop shot presentations down to 25', 3/8 oz down to 40'. If you use heavier line, then the increases. If you can feel the bottom, the weight is right Too heavy a weight and you may snag more often.

I NEVER use anything heavier than 1/4 oz. 90% of the time I am using a 3/16 for depths up to 20 feet. I never finds myself needing to fish deeper than 30 feet in the lakes I frequent so I can't comment on the potential need to go heavier. Guessing one would have to step to a slightly more powerful dropshot stick if fishing 1/4 - 1/2 oz baits regularly than "traditional" drop shot rods.

Wind has ALOT to do with what weight is needed for me.
