Speed Spool Or Pro Qualifier

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a new reel by the summer to throw crankbaits with.  The reel that I currently use for it is starting to fail me and needs to be replaced.  I already have a Tournament Speed Spool and really like it and have messed around with the Pro Qualifiers at Bass Pro.  I am having a hard time deciding.  They both cost the same and have equal amounts of good reviews.  Any advice on which I should get?

Well given the reel trade in going on and thte PQ being on sale i would go that route myself but i have never thrown the Speed Spool.

Since you can get the PQ on sale and with a reel trade in I go with the PQ. But the Speed spool is an awesome reel, and I wouldn't rule it out yet, feel which one you like the best.

I will not be able to get to BPS during the reel trade in.  I can get the Lews for about $10-15 more then the PQ.  I like the big paddles on the Lews but I like the option of getting a different gear ratio on the PQ (6.4:1 only opiton as a lefty with the Speed Spool).  I guess I will have to flip a coin to decide.

PQ>>> regular speed spool

and you have every gear ratio you could want in the PQ

Just curious, what makes the PQ better then the regual Speed Spool (besides the gear ratio options)?

I'd recommend getting the BPS PQ, I have one and I use it as part of my front line arsenal.  I still like my Shimanos better (the feel), but it doesn't mean the PQ lacks anything, they perform very well.  I've heard great things about LEWS, but I never owned one or thrown one.

And even without the reel trade in they are still on sale for $20 off i believe which i know someone else posted on here that htey were able to call in and get the sale price too.

I picked one up for throwing cranks myself in that nice 4.7:1 ratio for a lefty retrieve....lowest i could find in current models.

Sometimes you have a decision where you go right either way. This is one of those moments. You win either way. I have both as well. It's like having two kids, I can't decide which one I like better.

The braking options off the pq, has bells and whistles of more expensive reels. The fact it has a no hassle warranty for a year is easy enough in my book

I have a lews tournament MG and PQ so not being biased.

I'd get the 4.7:1 ProQ.  Not because the ProQ is better but because they don't have that ratio in the Lews.  4.7 will improve your cranking skills substantially.

Being for crankbaits I'd go with a PQ for the better ratio. I went with a lews mg for a cranking reel since it was the only low ratio LH model available at the time. Now the bb1 is on the market and a much better choice IMO. I'm not biased either I have 6 Lews casting reels.

Don't put too much thought into this.   Just buy the best priced one.  They are the same thing for all intents and purposes.  REVO, Phlueger etc.

Pro Qualifier. It has a dual braking system vs the mag brakes of the SS. I have 2 and I am very suprised at the quality of reel you get for the price.

I have both. They are both great reels. That said, I would absolutely, positively, get the Lews.
