How do you guys transport your rods to and from the water. I know guys with boats probably the rod locker but how bout bank fisherman. Iv got a kayak now so I can get out to more spots but iv got quite a bit invested in rods and reels now and don't want to break them. I drive a ranger extended cab pick up so not a lot of room inside and it's a flare/step side box/bed so bot the biggest. I'm gonna get rod sleeves and reel covers but is it ok just to let them lay out the bed the truck. Iv thought about building a rod locker of sorts to strap into the bed of my truck with the tailgate down to transport my rods.

I always carried mine in the cab but my ranger had a sliding rear window. I would just lay the passenger seat all the way back and put the reel end torwards the floorboard and rod tips out the rear window.

I thought about doin this also but if I got buddies or my kids with me that won't work but with the kids my poles stay home and theirs can just lay in the bed of the truck.

I have a 4 door car. I took the back seat out and lay my rods down in the back. When im taking the kayak out, i shove the kayak back there and lean my rods against the front seat.

I could take pics next time im going out, my kayak sits about 1-2 ft out of the trunk and i use a bungee cord to keep the hatch down. I only have an 8ft yak so it works out great.

Where do you put your kayak? What about using a bed cap or a top?

I just got the kayak a week ago of J Francho I haven't had it on the water but I just put it in the bed and tied it down.

Are you saying the bed of your truck cant carry your rods?  My Colorado's bed is 6ft.  I can lay 7ft.er's corner to opposite corner o.k.  I always use reel covers but not my rod jackets.  If I have my yak in the bed, the rods go inside the front hatch for the trip. My yak is 12ft and can easy carry 7ft rods without endangering the tips.  Ive also made a rod carrier for carrying them off the bed of the truck, out of pvc pipe.  Angled with the reel lower, the rod tips higher, they point out the bed over the top of the tailgate safely.  It was vandalized at my place of employment so I cant post any pics.

My 6'9" veritas spinning rod fits perfect corner to corner but not with the kayak in it. I forgot I have a rod bag like A Jay mentioned in the closet at my moms.
